Septic tanks take a lot of time and effort to develop. They offer great service and last lifetimes, but they have to be maintained properly. One of the most important things in maintenance is cleaning. Cleaning is, without a doubt, crucial otherwise, the water will start to affect your health and the health of your family members. You will have to call a professional septic tank cleaning service for the job, and they will charge you money, but this is not something you should ignore. If you are unsure if the tank needs to be cleaned at the moment, here are some signs that will give you an answer.

It’s Been More than Three Years

If it has been more than three years since you built the tank or cleaned it, there is no need to look for the sign. You just need to get it cleaned right away. Septic tanks have to be cleaned every three years. After that, you start to see problems, and you should not wait for them to appear. By the time the signs were visible, they had been doing damage for a long time. You and your family members use that water every day and probably even wash your dishes with it. If there are germs and bacteria in the water, you know how it affects everyone’s health.

It Smell Bad

If you have felt that the water smells bad, there is a chance that something is not right with the tank. Debris starts to build up, and some construction material might be getting mixed with the water, causing it to smell different.

Make sure you stop using that water right away instead of taking any risks. This is one of the worst signs, and this could mean that there have been problems for a long time. There is also a chance that the tank might be alright, but your pipes are not doing so well. In that case, you should also check the pipes if they need to be replaced, although they are supposed to last hundreds of years.

The Water Has Color

When there is too much debris in the tank, the water will start to catch a color. You might even notice some tiny little pieces floating in the water. They are not usually visible unless you move the water, and they will start moving and become noticeable.

This means that the water is not safe to drink or even use for other purposes such as cleaning dishes, washing clothes, and taking a bath. This problem needs to be resolved before you start using the tank water again.

Water Pressure is Not Good

One of the main reasons the water pressure might not be good is because the debris has become solid, and it’s blocking the path of the water. You should first ensure the tank is not leaking and properly filled before you test the pressure. If everything else is alright, then there is no other option but to clean the tank.
